For several decades stroke has been a main research area at the Division of Neurology at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience at Lund University.

A major population-based epidemiological stroke study has been ongoing since 2001, and several projects have been linked to this database.
Currently, several genetic projects are ongoing, including a genome-wide scan for stroke genes in collaboration with the BROAD Institute, Boston and several North American and European Centres.
