The Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at University College London is renowned throughout the world for leadership in understanding societal influences on health in general, and cardiovascular disease in particular.

Pioneering work on the Whitehall studies of civil servants, led by the Divisional Chair Professor Sir Michael Marmot, has focussed on understanding how social position influences cardiovascular health.

Over the last decade the scope of this Department has expanded to include:

  • Studies in western and eastern Europe
  • A focus on the prognosis of cardiovascular disease – work led by Professor Hemingway
